The American Chamber of Commerce in Dominican Republic presented its Social Business Responsibility award to Cemex Dominican Republic, for its program “Patrimonio Hoy,” which helps people build or improve their homes by promoting a culture of saving.
It’s the company’s second major recognition in less than 30 days, after it won a prize from En Sociedad (ES) magazine – the bi-weekly supplement to Santo Domingo-based newspaper Hoy – for its efforts to preserve and protect the country’s fresh water sources on September 9.
Cemex launched Patrimonio Hoy four years ago and has since contributed to building 13,994 sq. m of houses, fences, footers, slabs and other housing elements, using 6,556 bags of cement; 58,668 blocks; 1,227 cu. m of aggregates and 150,900 lb. of steel rod (rebar). The program has helped 3,240 people in 83 communities.
